Extending THREDDS middleware to serve OGC community

چکیده
As far as interoperability is concerned, in a service-oriented framework, it is possible to distinguish different service tiers; each tier contains systems and tools which implement that tier’s specific task. The present paper analyses such a framework for the Earth Sciences and the GIS information communities. For the Earth Sciences community, the heterogeneity of existing protocols and data models is outlined, considering the experience of the Unidata community. For the GIS community, the interoperability opportunities laid by the OGC’s specifications are briefly introduced. The need of achieving the two communities’ frameworks interoperability, and its importance for science Digital Library applications are introduced. A solution is presented and discussed; it is based on the following technologies: THREDDS Data Server, OGC WCS/WFS and ncMLGML. An OGC interoperability experiment, which tests the proposed solution, is briefly presented.

Federated data bases for the development of an operational monitoring and forecasting system of the ocean: the THREDDS Dataset Merger
During the last decade, operational monitoring and forecasting systems have been developed in all the European seas. The exchange of data and products and the development of services for a wide community of users pose some fundamental issues, whose solution has become a priority in integrated and GMES referring projects, such as the MERSEA European project. These projects aim to develop a Europ...
متن کاملAsynchronous Geospatial Processing: An Event-Driven Push-Based Architecture for the OGC Web Processing Service
Geospatial processing tasks like solar potential analyses or floodplain investigations within flood scenarios are often complex and deal with large amounts of data. If such analysis operations are performed in distributed web-based systems, technical capabilities are mostly not sufficient. Major shortcomings comprise the potentially long execution times and the vast amount of messaging overhead...
متن کاملTool for Storm Analysis Using Multiple Data Sets
This note describes a web-based tool for storm analysis using multiple data sets developed for use in research of thunderstorms and forecasting applications. The tool was developed for users to monitor atmospheric changes along the path of storm systems. It demonstrates the use of the Thematic Real time Environmental Data Distributed Services (THREDDS) being developed by University Corporation ...
متن کاملPublication and Discovery of Semantically Annotated Geospatial Web Services
Environmental information and services have become a crucial asset in the creation of decission support systems. Unfortunately, this information and services are not usually exposed in an interoperable and standard way, limiting their reusability and impact in the community. Publishing and discovering geospatial information and services on the Web is therefore an important challenge in order to...
متن کاملStreaming Data Services to Support Archival and Real-Time Geographical Information System Grids
In this paper we describe our efforts to build a Web Services based architecture to support both real-time and archived geographic data in Geographical Information System (GIS) Grids. We have built and tested Web Service version of OGC Web Feature Service (WFS) that can be used to provide archived geospatial data to various clients. Due to several performance issues described in this paper we a...
